The story takes place in a seedy bar where all of the elements of a painful past come together. Derek Bird and his sister, Ashley, were orphaned when their mother went to jail for the murder of their father. Now, a decade has past and Derek returns home to find his sister is a successful lawyer who has worked hard to sever all connections from family trauma she doesn’t fully understand. All of that is thrown into turmoil in anticipation of their mother’s release from prison. Derek is forced to confront the forces that tore his life apart and still haunt him to this day. But can they expose the terrible secret behind the father’s death and heal at the same time…

ABOUT THE AUTHOR
Playwright Lee Edward Colston II, is an actor, playwright, director, acting teacher, and author. His plays include Roost, Solitary, The First Deep Breath, & Alvin’s Will. His play ‘SOLITARY’ was winner of the 2008 Philadelphia Theater Workshop. His play ‘ROOST’ won the 2010 Life Media Award in the Philadelphia Urban Theater Festival & the 2013 Hidden River Arts Award for best new play. He is a playwriting fellow as apart of The National Black Theatre’s 2017-2018 ‘I AM SOUL’ fellowship. His play The First Deep Breath was selected for the 2018 Victory Gardens IGNITION Festival of new American plays. The First Deep Breath’s World Premiere was produced by Victory Garden Theatre during December 2019.
