IT SPEAKS TO ME
Adapted by Addell Austin Anderson from the poetry of Dudley Randall
60 minutes followed by a brief talkback
It Speaks to Me is based on the works of poet and Broadside Press founder, Dudley Randall. The play concerns a teenager who discovers the writings of Mr. Randall. The cast is composed of seven Metro Detroit middle and high school students performing poems and dramatizing one of the writer’s short stories. Families are encouraged to bring children, aged 10 and up. The one-act play will enjoy two public performances: 6:30 PM, Saturday, April 29 at Plymouth United Church of Christ in Detroit; and 6 PM, Friday, May 19 at the Lathrup Village City Hall.
It Speaks to Me is a project of Plowshares Theatre Company’s arts educational programming. Following the May 19th performance, the non-royalty script will be available online for schools and youth groups to enjoy in classrooms and onstage.
Join us for the performance followed by a provocative discussion about Dudley Randall and his writings. It Speaks to Me is free, but reservations are required. The performances are free of charge and will be followed by a talkback with the actors and light refreshments. Seating is limited.
SPECIAL THANKS: Michigan State University – Detroit Center, Plymouth United Church of Christ, The City of Lathrup Village and Dr. Melba Boyd, Executor of the Dudley Randall Estate.
